Bed Bug Management for Affordable Housing Providers

Healthy Housing Solutions, along with Rick Cooper, Technical Director for Cooper Pest Solutions, one of the leading experts on the subject of bed bugs and bed bug management, developed the four-hour online, instructor-led “Bed Bug Management for Affordable Housing Providers.” As a student in this course, you will take an active role in solving common challenges, identifying problems, learning what strategies work to kill bed bugs, and how to find a good pest management professional. If you are interested in attending this course, you may contact Laura Titus who will contact you so you can register for the next session of this course.

Less is More: Using Limited Resident Prep for Bed Bug Treatment

Healthy Housing Solutions, along with Jeffrey White, technical director of Bed Bug Central and host of Bed Bug TV, developed the online, instructor-led webinar “Less is More: Using Limited Resident Prep for Bed Bug Treatment.”

This free, one-hour webinar, presented by the Healthy Homes Training Center with funding from HUD, is designed to challenge the traditional thought that extensive preparation is necessary to control bed bugs within a home. For years, many pest control companies and housing providers have required tenants to extensively prepare their home for bed bug treatment in order to make the process more effective. This process can be very time consuming and many often don’t have the physical and mental capacity to follow the recommendations properly. This webinar teaches a new approach to bed bug treatment that doesn’t require 90-95% of the traditional bed bug prep work, which makes bed bug treatment easier for all involved!

You can listen to the session that took place on January 29, 2019 by visiting the Less is More: Using Limited Resident Prep for Bed Bug Treatment webpage.

Making Homes Healthier for Residents Who Hoard

Healthy Housing Solutions, along with Dion Lerman of the Pennsylvania Integrated Pest Management (PA IPM) Program, Penn State University, developed the online, instructor-led webinar “Making Homes Healthier for Residents who Hoard.”

This free, one-hour webinar discusses hoarding as it impacts healthy homes. Participants learn about and practice using a tool that helps a healthy home practitioner measure the level at which the resident’s hoarding could have an impact on his or her health. They also learn about what does and does not work in addressing health-related hazards in a hoarder’s house. Over 100 people registered for the three free sessions that were held in February and March 2018.

You can listen to the recording of the first session held on February 15, 2018 and obtain valuable information on hoarding by visiting the Making Homes Healthier for Residents who Hoard webpage.

Making Homes Healthier for Residents with Limited Finances

This free, one-hour webinar addresses the problem of working with residents who have limited finances to cover the cost of healthy homes fixes. The session encourages participants to think about how the healthy homes approach of “what can my program fund?” may not work well. Instead, students should think about an approach that involves identifying the highest priority fixes for a house and considering the variety of programs that might be able to fund those fixes. This webinar covers how to look for possible sources of funding. If you are interested in attending this course, you may contact Laura Titus who will contact you so you can register for the next session.

You can listen to the recording and also obtain other valuable information by visiting the Making Homes Healthier for Residents with Limited Finances webpage.
